(Videos) Apache Flying & Humvee Rollover (US Army Training)
« on: November 13, 2009, 02:23:59 am »
I just found some videos my brother took with his cell phone during training.

This first one he took during advanced training learning to refuel an Apache (Hes a Petroleum Supply Specialist)

This second one was during basic training where he was learning how to react to humvee rollover.

Are hummwv's like Volvos in the sense that they have a tendancy to randomly roll over on to their heads? :D

No, humvees are actually very stable vehicles, able to go on very rough terrain on steep inclines.

What tends to knock them over though, is IEDs lol.

Ah yes, that sounds about right :D

How is it at the moment anyway, aint most HMMVW's unarmed more or less when shipped off to combat, im guessing there on the other hand are some armored once in service.

No, all humvees are now "uparmored" and can withstand alot of damage.

The ones who were "thinned skinned" were never meant to act as a combat vehicle. They were originally invented for patrols and supply and escorts and stuff. But, with the new type of fluid combat, they couldnt just rely on dedicated, squad based APCs, this way each fireteam can have its own armored vehicle with a heavy weapon mounted on it.

Original Humvee

Uparmored Humvee

And one thing that annoys me about most video games is they drastically reduce the humvees effectiveness by only letting the gunner shoot. The US army is trained to fire from the windows while moving. Kinda like this.

Ah,that looks a bit more effective in a combat situation :D

But yeah, not only with hummvw's but really all vehicles, need to be more flexibility to when and where you can shoot by far.
Would be epic to have that in

Not as good as the new MRAPs!!! which do have a tendency to roll over.... but hey! their not made to be highly mobile combat fighting vehicles...
I pound ass on a daily bases so what makes you so special?
