STEAM users ==> HOWTO update (not to fast) your ArmA2
Howto always have compatible version of ArmA 2 with our servers (mostly CL, ArmA Strike)

The main problem is that Steam (unusually) applies BETA patches for Arma2, which rp-mods (usually) dont.

Applies only if you have you have Steam version of Arma
1. Disable auto-update IMMEDIATELY (you can do it by RMB (Right Mouse Button) clicking on game name and choose disable auto update)
... so arma2 wont update itself
2. after you notice (post from Team/QAT on forum) that we applied new patches on the server, then:
enable auto-update + restart Steam
3. wait until download=update=patch downloaded and installed
4. reboot your gaming rig, try to join our servers
5. Do NOT forget to disable auto-update again ASAP to avoid downloading 1.xx.newer-beta-versions

My personal notice:
Steam has many advantages but is NOT good for BIS games / "community games" with many mods.
And you can buy Arma2_DVD on amazon.co.uk much cheaper than anywhere else (usually 10-15E + 0-15E delivery all EU/US). And its English version which I prefer over CZ/DE/RU/FR versions even tho I am not native English speaker.

I have steam, I let it patch to 1.04 and CL seems to be working fine for me. Not only that, my crash issue has finally been fixed and I can run the game at a higher resolution.

STEAM users beware though:

Apparently, the patch supplied by BiS to Steam had a wrong signature file. This causes you to get kicked from any server with a "Session Lost" message, server side it drops a message about a wrong signature file before kicking you. A solution exists, from the same link:

ftp://downloads.bistudio.com/arma2.com/update/fixed_steam_signature_104/bin.pbo.bi.bisign

This is the correct signature file. It should be live on STEAM shortly, but feel free to use this one. This is all I needed to get ArmA 2 and CL running on my PC.

EDIT: Oh, also, I had auto update on all the time and the newer patches never screwed up anything for me, I could still connect to CL (and crash promptly) or any other server.
